The team encounters one friendly face in Shatterstar , whose combat prowess has made him a top streamer. They also run into an old foe who's changed to reflect the times in her media-obsessed society. Spiral is a longtime lieutenant of the villainous Mojo. Although she was once a fearsome opponent of the X-Men , the six-armed sword-wielding villain has taken on a new role as a talk show host. She interviews the team on her talk show, "Spiral's Showcase," after they fend off the attack of some clout chasing streamers.
Spiral has taken to her role as a streamer well. She switches between playing to her audience and torturing X-Factor with the reveal of the mutant who was murdered with ease. She twists the knife further by revealing that she willingly allowed herself to be shot for stream views.
Spiral stages the reveal in the most exploitative way possible, instructing her broadcast team to shoot the scene with "ugly lighting. It was eventually revealed that Spiral was the twisted version of Wayword. After years of captivity, Mojo had her body and mind modified in an attempt to make her loyal to him.
The soul piece had been removed many years ago by Mojo in order to keep Spiral enslaved. Spiral, with her soul completed, began to leave until she realized that Mojo would easily defeat Gambit and Rogue.
Instead, Spiral joined in the battle, and when Rogue absorbed her powers, the trio managed to defeat Mojo. Spiral then teleported Gambit and Rogue back to apartment on Earth. Spell Casting : Spiral has powerful mystical abilities. With gestures or dance moves, she can teleport herself and numerous people across great distances.
Teleportation and her more powerful spells require complicated dance moves. Some of Spiral's spell-casting powers can be triggered through small hand gestures of her many hands. Spiral often incorporates knives and swords into more complicated spells. Spiral can also disguise herself through her magic. With Mojo's aid or specific astral events, Spiral can open gateways between dimensions and travel through time.
For a time, her trans-reality powers have been cancelled by Mojo, and she can only teleport on Earth where Mojo dumped her. However, Spiral managed to have her interdimensional powers returned to her, through unknown circumstances. By using magic, Spiral can:. Possession Immunity: Spiral's mind seems to be immune from possession. When Rogue attempted to steal Spiral's mind and powers, Spiral collapsed into unconsciousness, but took over Rogue's body instead, laughing that she had danced in many people's souls.
This lasted only for a short time, however. Spiral is aware, through unknown mystical means, whenever a person speaks her name. She was considered as a possible Sorcerer Supreme. Spiral is a highly skilled hand-to-hand combatant and sword fighter.
Her six arms are fully coordinated, giving her great dexterity and athletic ability. However, Spiral will often lose to less powerful opponents due to tendencies of overconfidence, toying with her foe for too long, or becoming distracted.
To cast many, if not all of her spells, Spiral's arms must be free and unhindered and, in some cases, she must be free to dance as well. Spiral demonstrated highly developed skills in cybernetics and genetic manipulation which she has used to turn humans into powerful cyborgs at her Body Shoppe. She was attacked by a future version of herself when she attempted to help him return home. Spiral's loyalty to Mojo continued to switch back and forth. She often mocked him even while following his orders. On one such occasion, she defied him by helping Longshot and Shatterstar. She then transferred his being into the comatose body of Benjamin Russell and immediately left with the source of her feelings for Shatterstar as yet unrevealed.
Spiral's dual nature resurfaced when she appeared with the mark of the Crimson Dawn on her face. Nocturne's possession was not as complete as she had thought when Spiral quickly recovered and turned the X-Men into the X-Babies once again. Even though she was a loyal servant of Mojo, Spiral deeply resented his crass manner and cruelty towards her. In particular, Spiral has been known to go against Mojo's orders and attack Longshot out of psychotic need for revenge for Longshot's seduction of her and how her love for him led to her transformation into the being she is today.
As such, Mojo has been known to leave Spiral stranded on Earth. She was revealed to have conquered an alternate timeline and referred to herself as "The Apocalypse.
Spiral had kidnapped that universe's Sunspot and tortured him by making him make love to her until his rescue. With the aid of Shatterstar, Spiral was evidently defeated and apparently returned to Mojo's services. She later attacked the X-Men together with Mojo, but ended up defeated once again.
For More Information: Endangered Species. In the Endangered Species storyline, Spiral and Mojo were approached by Beast while searching for solutions for preventing mutants from becoming extinct. Although she offered no further advice, she did help Beast by informing him that no amount of science would solve this problem, and that he should instead turn to magic for a solution. Spiral later resurfaced while she was helping to fix Lady Deathstrike, who had been brutally beaten during the Messiah Complex.
The two women were then recruited in the Sisterhood of Mutants by the Red Queen , with Lady Deathstrike calling Spiral her mistress and willingly doing any task that she asked.
Spiral had Deathstrike and Chimera assist her in digging up Psylocke 's old body, and Spiral used her magic to assist the Red Queen in returning Betsy to her original form while keeping her under the control of the Sisterhood. Spiral then teleported the Sisterhood to the X-Men's headquarters where they easily got the best of the mutant team. With Spiral holding off Northstar , the Red Queen was defeated and she was forced teleport the rest of the Sisterhood to safety to an unknown location.
Spiral is now operating in L. This is until she is attacked by Psylocke. Spiral asks Betsy for mercy, but Betsy refuses wanting her vengeance. However, the club-goers under the influence of Tao attack Psylocke.
